Reviews
These guys have saved my dogs life and we could never be more appreciative. All the staff are amazing and so kind. Our dog Ollie actually loves coming to the vet even with all the needles and appointments! Emma is so lovely and caring. We’re forever grateful and will always take our furry friends to Elgar Road Vet.
I've been taking my cat here for 10 years. Very caring vets and support staff. They offer pensioner discounts, and they don't do unnecessary procedures. Very convenient to have cattery attached to the Vet clinic. The cattery has an indoor/outdoor cat run and spacious cages.
I needed an appointment urgently before Christmas for a dog I was dog sitting and am appreciative that they accommodated this. Of the vets I called I did check the reviews in advance and this surgery appeared to have a balance of good care and fair pricing, though I don’t agree with the fair pricing aspect as I write this (skip below if medication costs are a concern).
Whilst the dog was seen promptly and is making good progress, after a quick google search it appears there’s gouging on the prescription pricing here. I understand you are running a business and are professionals (which is factored into your consult fee of $145.00) but I can’t help think with the markups on medications you have taken advantage of the situation. I’ll leave others to judge based on their own comparisons.
The star rating of 2 was a balance of you providing an appointment when needed and a professional service. The three star deduction is due to the excessive cost of the medications that were prescribed and supplied when comparing to the going rate.
****The medications and prices charged by Elgar Road Vet Hospital are below:
Chlorsig 0.5% eye drops (10ml) $39.45
Meloxicam oral dog (15ml) $56.40
Noroclav 250mg $50.30 (20 tablets)
A quick search on Australian based pet pharmacies that supply to the public/pet owners shows the following prices:
Chlorsig $9.90
Meloxicam $15.90
Noroclav $13.20
So over $100 overcharged for medications!
So as I write this review I’m feeling decidedly ripped off and taken advantage of. I understand a markup for the storage and convenience of having the medications onsite but 3 x the price is simply daylight robbery.
***In reply to the businesses reply of 27/12.
Your staff I assume are paid via the consult fee of $145.00 so your response of needing to pay professionals doesn’t account for the gouging you do on medication.
If you wished to reach out direct there is enough detail in this review for you to have (I’m sure you didn’t see 10 dogs with the same medications I’ve listed) but you didn’t. If it was to spout the same rhetoric about online v running a clinic then I’m glad you didn’t as even at the low prices available elsewhere they’d be making a profit so you are simply ripping pet owners off.
For the $100+ you overcharged I could’ve driven to a compounding pharmacy anywhere in Melbourne and still been better off. Saying I compared online pharmacies with your service is wrong as you have assumed I compared your ridiculous medication prices with an online pharmacy which is incorrect. I cannot name other businesses in a review as it will breach googles terms, but those reading feel free.
Further, anyone reading the reviews here I urge you to not accept the pricing charged and ask for a script otherwise you will be ripped off like I was. Simply referring to other reviews to deflect from the real issue here is completely diverting the issue I have raised which says a lot about your ability to accept constructive criticism.
To all pet owners,
I hope that before you visiting this clinic and decide to take your pet to their practice, you can take one minute to read my story. I took my cat (as showed in the picture) last Nov to this clinic for an emergency situation, the vet called Nicole Tan, gave my cat a check for around 10 mins and asked me to do a series of tests (cost me around $1600) to check whether my cat got a lung cancer. Before I even got to see any test results, on the same day, she suggested that I should euthanize my cat as curing him will cost me a fortune and still won't save him. All discussion was taken place around the area near reception.
I didn't believe that my cat is dying so I rejected her and requested to take my cat home to wait for results before making any decision. She rejected to discharge my cat and insisted to put him into a 24 hrs animal hospital in Collingwood. I have no other options but sending him there for overnight caring. However, when I received those results from CARE, no one can diagnose what has happened to my cat and they agreed to release my cat home.
Since then, my cat is still perfectly happy and alive. I have raised my case with Vetboard and pending for their review.
I put this review in google after almost one year is simply because I suffered PTSD after what has happened and I don't want to make emotional comments last year. Secondly, I put 5 stars in this review is just simply hoping more and more people can see this before I am forced to delete.
Hope your pets will be fairly treated and be your company as long as possible.
Cannot believe how wonderful this place is. So caring, sharing and lots of follow up. We have two dogs and one cat, all of whom have needed some TLC over the years and nothing is too much trouble, and they will fit you in if it is an emergency. All of the vets and nurses are great, but I have to say that Emma is one of the best. I would only go elsewhere to an emergency vet if they were not open and even then they ring the next day to make sure that the animal is doing ok. Caring, compassionate and one of the best. Have been going here for over 15 years and would never consider going anywhere else
After our third time here it's safe to say that the people here really care about the animals and their owners. Dr. Lee was extremely helpful and fantastic with our boys whilst also providing a heap of information on both essentials and curiosities. Kudos to the team!
This Vet clinic is AMAZING! I only wish that I had found them sooner. The care and compassion they showed my 16 year old dog Mia was phenomenal. Dr Lee & Dr Emma are the best vets I have come across, happy to take the time to explain everything in detail and answer all my questions. The kindness & empathy that Phaelin showed both Mia and I will never be forgotten. I will definitely be bringing my next furry friend to Elgar Road Veterinary Hospital.
I take my cats, dog and rabbit here and they are brilliant. There is a genuine sense of care and compassion. Prices are reasonable and there is no pressure to buy unnecessary products or tests.
